April 2003

The guest speaker at our April meeting was Melanie Womack, Business Adviser from the Inland Revenue. She gave a very interesting talk focusing on National Insurance and state pensions. Her services are free to businesses like our selves. She and her colleague Pete Davis will visit at your premises/home to give advice and support. They even support small businesses in setting up payrolls.

Melanie‘s contact details are as follows: Michael Paul House, Corporation Street, Taunton TA1 4BZ. 01823 358569 She also offered to come and speak to us again as a group on any specific subjects we felt relevant. We will bear this in mind when we hold a review/plan session later this year.

PROGRESS ON THE FLYER

Great News!! The flyer is now designed and is at the printers, due back on Wednesday this week. I will be seeing the Paper Shop on Friday to make sure they can still deliver for us – a new set of paper boys need to be asked!!

TRAINING FOR FREE

More good news!! We have been offered money for training. The money originates from the Rural Development Agency via the Somerset Chamber of Commerce and is for what they call “non-sector training”” which believe it or not would mean us! Hattie Tuck, Rural Regeneration lady from Taunton Deane has put us forward as a “successful rural business group”. The upshot of this is that her and SCAT (the training providers) will attend the latter half of our next meeting to brainstorm what training needs we have and how they can meet them.
